50 Years and 50,000 Smiles

For 50 years, our team of  American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) Board Certified Orthodontists have been committed to the families of Eastern North Carolina. In 1968, Dr. Alex Willis opened the first Smile Makers at Coastal Carolina Orthodontics office in Jacksonville, NC. Over the next several years, Dr. Richard Vanek and Raymond Ball joined the flourishing practice, opening new locations in Morehead City and Havelock, NC. In 1995, Dr. Todd Fischer joined the Smile Makers team, followed by Dr. BJ Richards and Dr. David Walker. While Drs. Fischer, Richards, and Walker primarily run the practice today, Dr. Ball and Dr. Willis can still be found treating patients throughout the week, including on what is fondly known as “Willis Wednesdays.” The team offers a unique approach to orthodontics. Our doctors often discuss and collaborate on cases, ensuring you or your child has the best in orthodontic care.

Not only do we believe in coordinated care, but we value community and family as well. Our friendly office staff is often found at local events and activities sponsored by our office, including kid’s running races, high school football games, local triathlons for teens, and other events focused on health and wellness.
